Ohio plans to eventually have close to 60 medical marijuana shops with seven in Greater Cincinnati.
Four things to know about Ohio’s marijuana program:
3.5 million people in the state have medical conditions that qualify them for medical cannabis
In the first four weeks that the state opened up patient registry, more than 3,500 people have completed the registration process and experts believe that could eventually reach 200,000.
The only people allowed in dispensaries are card holders and state-approved caregivers
Patients can download and print their card online or have the option to show their card on their smartphone. The card must be presented upon entry to the dispensary as well as a state-issued piece of ID.
Smoking is still prohibited
Marijuana can be inhaled through a vaporizer but the law currently prohibits smoking. Patients also have the option to consume cannabis through way of edibles, oils, patches and tinctures.
There are strict rules about how much you can buy
Patients are currently limited to a “90-day-supply” of product as per the Ohio state law and this is decided by the THC levels. This means patients can purchase:
Up to 8 ounces of cannabis as or below23 percent THC
Up to 5.3 ounces of cannabis between 23 percent and35 percent THC
Patches, lotions, creams and other topical products of no more than 26.55 grams of THC in total
Oil for vaporization with up to 53.1 grams of THC
Up to 9.9 grams of THC from capsules, tinctures, oils and other edibles.
